Opponents of the Tohono O'odham Nation off-reservation casino plan to resume their fight in the next session of Congress. The House passed H.R.1410, the Keep the Promise Act, to prevent the tribe from using its trust land for gaming. But the Senate failed to take action on the bill or on its companion, S.2670, before the close of the 113th Congress. "It is time for our opponents to stop wasting millions of dollars on frivolous lawsuits and lobbying campaigns and time for us all to move forward together with creating economic opportunity for the entire West Valley,” Tohono O'odham Chairman Ned Norris Jr. said in a statement to Capitol Media Services. Republicans will have control of the House and the Senate in the 114th Congress. That could make it easier for the Senate Indian Affairs Committee to move a new version of the bill. Get the Story:
