A former council member for the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut who was convicted of stealing continues to hold a job at the Foxwoods Resort Casino. Steven Thomas was hired as manager of tribal and Native American relations in December 2013, The New London Day reported. That was two months after he pleaded guilty to one count of theft from an Indian tribal organization. Charlene Jones, another former council member, interviewed for the same job. She is now suing the tribal gaming enterprise and the tribal employment rights office, saying Thomas wasn't qualified and shouldn't have been hired due to his criminal record. Thomas was sentenced in February 2014 to two years of probation, including three months of home confinement. A month later, the elders council voted to banish him for one year, however, he was allowed to stay in his home on the reservation and commute to and from his job at Foxwoods. The tribe's court will hear arguments in the case on December 18, the Day reported. Get the Story:
