It's official -- the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community has acquired the naming rights to a big arena in downtown Phoenix, Arizona. The Talking Stick Resort Arena takes its name from the tribe's Talking Stick Resort. The facility is home to the Phoenix Suns and the Phoenix Mercury and is also known as a top concert venue. “Like Talking Stick Resort, this venue has become an iconic destination for entertainment in Arizona,” President Diane Enos said in a press release. “Thousands of families and individuals have created long-lasting memories at this venue which makes its new name, ‘Talking Stick Resort Arena,’ all the more meaningful." The Talking Stick name appears on the outside of the facility, on the underbelly of the center scoreboard; on the arena’s rooftop and on the floors of the basketball courts for Suns and Mercury games. An area inside the arena that's known as the Casino Arizona Pavilion -- for the tribe's Casino Arizona -- will remain.
