The Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians will move forward with a casino expansion project after finalizing an agreement with San Diego County in California. The tribe agreed to make a one-time payment of $150,000 to address the impacts of expanding the Viejas Casino. Plans outlined in an enviromental impact report for call for a six-story hotel with 128 rooms that will include another 16,500 square-feet of gaming space. The tribe recently signed a new Class III gaming compact with California Gov. Jerry Brown (D). The deal eliminates a flat $17.4 million payment to the state and adopts a revenue sharing system based on percentages. A copy of the new compact can be found on the governor's website.
