The Catawba Nation saw large crowds at its new bingo facility in South Carolina.

Catawba Bingo opened to the public on Saturday. Chief Bill Harris said the line was out the door.

“Can you feel the positive energy in the room?” Harris told The Rock Hill Herald. “I can only feel good about this. It’s been a long time coming.”

The facility offers high-stakes bingo and some electronic Class II machines. It's the tribes first bingo hall since 2006.

Separately, the tribe is pursuing a casino across the border in North Carolina. A land-into-trust application for the $600 million casino has been submitted to the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
