Commissioners in Muskegon County, Michigan, unanimously passed a resolution in support of the off-reservation casino proposed by the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians. The tribe plans to build a $100 million casino at a former racetrack in Fruitport Township. The 233-acre site is about 80 miles from the reservation. The tribe is pursuing the casino under the two-part determination provisions of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. If the Bureau of Indian Affairs approves, Gov. Rick Snyder (R) will have veto authority over the project. Snyder hasn't stated his position but he agreed to allow the land-into-trust process to move forward. He also would need to agree to an amendment to the tribe's Class III gaming compact to authorize another casino. Get the Story:
