A man who charged with operating a casino that wasn't authorized by the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe of New York fled to Canada to be with his dying daughter, APTN reports.

James Gray was one of five people indicted in connection with the Three Feathers Casino. He was never arrested and was considered a fugitive.

It turns out Gray fled the U.S. to be with his dying daughter, Ieweras Gray, who was undergoing treatment for leukemia in Canada. The 16-year-old girl died on June 4, APTN reported.

A federal judge has since dismissed all charges against Gray and another Mohawk man. Three other men were previously acquitted after a jury trial.
