The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians has withdrawn plans for an off-reservation casino in , North Dakota. The tribe wanted to build a $60 million casino in Grand Forks, about 187 miles from its headquarters in Belcourt. But Chairman Richard McCloud was told that the state would not consent to the operation, as required by the two-part determination provisions of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. Instead, the tribe is pursuing a casino on land that is already in trust. The site is on a satellite portion of the reservation in Trenton, The Grand Forks Herald reported. Trenton is about 234 miles from tribal headquarters, according to Google Maps.
