The Keweenaw Bay Indian Community of Michigan is moving forward with plans to relocate one of its casinos.

The tribe wants to move the Ojibwa Casino in Baraga to the waterfront. Negotiations will commence to buy a hotel and convert it to a bigger gaming facility.

"We're moving forward, it's time, this (casino) has exceeded its limits," President Donald Shalifoe told The Marquette Daily Mining Gazette. "A waterfront endeavor would increase revenue for all the communities."

If the purchase of the Baraga Lakeside Inn goes through, the tribe presumably will ask the Bureau of Indian Affairs to place the site in trust. The hotel is less than 2 miles from the existing casino.
