The Chumash Casino Resort has been a prominent sponsor of the LA Clippers.
The Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians in California praised the NBA for disciplining the owner of the Los Angeles Clippers. The Chumash Casino Resort withdrew its sponsorship of the team after owner Donald Sterling made racist comments about African-Americans. He has been banned for life from the NBA and was ordered to pay a $2.5 million fine. “We absolutely agree and support NBA Commissioner Adam Silver’s decision today,” Chairman Vincent Armenta said in a statement. “It sends a strong message that the views expressed by Donald Sterling will not be tolerated." Armenta indicated the tribe could restart its sponsorship if Sterling sells the team or is forced to do so. He hasn't made any public comments about the situation. "We plan to continue to closely monitor the Clippers’ ownership situation," Armenta said. "We would also like to extend our support to the team members and the entire Clippers’ family during this time.” The team has lost a slew of major sponsors due to the controversy. Get the Story:
