The Cherokee Nation Council approved a measure to clarify the duties of the Cherokee Nation Gaming Commission. The commission will continue to regulate all gaming activities. However, it will no longer have authority over non-gaming activities such as food, beverage and retail. Those areas will be handled by Cherokee Nation Businesses, the economic development arm of the Cherokee Nation. The change reduces regulatory costs by at least $4 million, according to tribal councilors who supported the measure. The measure also requires the tribe to comply with the minimum internal control standards set by the National Indian Gaming Commission. Get the Story:
