Two bars at the casino owned by the
Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut are being sued in connection with a drunken driving death.
Juan Davila, 54, allegedly drank at the Star Bar and Lansdowne Pub at
Mohegun Sun before he ran his car into two pedestrians in April 2013. Lakendrick Horn, 28, was killed.
Horn's family has filed a civil lawsuit against the establishments. It was filed in state court, presumably under the state's
dram shop laws.
The tribe has its own dram shop law that requires claims to be filed in tribal court. It was enacted after the tribe
settled a lawsuit that tested whether the state's laws applied on the reservation.
The incident involving Davila took place off the reservation. He has pleaded not guilty to charges of second-degree manslaughter, second-degree assault with a motor vehicle, first-degree reckless endangerment, drunken driving and making an improper turn.
