Chumash Tribe to spend more than $100M on casino expansion

The Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians in California will spend more than $100 million on a gaming expansion project, Chairman Vincent Armenta said.

The tribe is financing the expansion on its own, Armenta said. Details are still being worked out but the gaming floor and the hotel at the Chumash Casino Resort will definitely be getting a lot bigger.

"It just makes sense," Armenta told The Los Angeles Times. "It's going to be an interesting project."

The tribe envisions another 60,000 square-feet for the 94,000 square-foot gaming floor. There will also be another 750-space garage to add to the 1,750 existing spaces.

The 106-room hotel will see another 215 rooms. Armenta said the four-story building will grow taller.

The tribe gave advance notice to Santa Barbara County under the terms of its Class III gaming compact.
