Maine lawmakers try to revive tribal gaming bills after setback

The Maine House is trying to revive three tribal gaming bills that were rejected in the Senate.

The House voted to "insist" on passage of two bills affecting the Penobscot Nation, the the Aroostook Band of Micmacs and the Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians, The Bangor Daily News reported.

A third bill, affecting the Passamaquoddy Tribe (Indian Township and Pleasant Point), was tabled, meaning an amendment might be in the works, the paper said.

“We’re just trying to get jobs on our reservations, just like everyone else in this state,” Pleasant Point Chief R. Clayton Cleaves told the paper.

The bills will go back to the Senate for another round of consideration.
