The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut is part of a group that is proposing a $500 million commercial casino in Pennsylvania. The tribe and its partners are vying for a license to build the casino in downtown Philadelphia. The tribe would own 17 percent of the facility, The New London Day reported. The tribe already operates the Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs in the northeastern part of the state. The tribe owns 100 percent of the facility. Elsewhere in the region, the tribe is bidding on a commercial license in the Catskills region of New York. A decision is expected in a few weeks. Closer to home, the tribe is interested in expanding its operations in Connecticut, where gaming revenues have fallen steadily over the past few years. Chairman Kevin Brown said he hopes to talk with state leaders about the industry, which will be facing new threats from commercial casinos in neighboring Massachusetts. The tribe was part of the race in Massachusetts but was locked out twice. “We did not win the competition for a license and so now we are ready to compete for the business of Connecticut gaming casino gaming enthusiasts," Brown told The New Haven Register.
