The Karuk Tribe of California expects to break ground on a $35 million casino in spring of 2015. The tribe has cleared all major state and federal hurdles for the project and negotiations continue for an agreement at the local level. Plans call for a 36,000 square-foot facility with 500 gaming machines, eight table games, a 100-seat restaurant and a parking area. "By next spring, we should start digging," Jaclyn Goodwin, the tribe's self governance coordinator, told The Medford Mail-Tribune. Voters in Siskiyou County aren't too happy though -- nearly 55 percent said they didn't want a casino in Measure M, a non-binding referendum that was on the ballot last week.
