Voters in South Dakota approved Constitutional Amendment Q, a measure that paves the way for more Class III games in the state, on Tuesday. With 714 of 714 precincts reporting, the referendum carried nearly 57 percent of the vote, according to the Secretary of State. Passage enables state lawmakers to authorize roulette, keno and craps at non-Indian facilities in Deadwood. Under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, tribes would be able to offer the same games. Most would not need to renegotiate their Class III compacts to take advantage of the expansion, a state official said last week. The prospect of additional games fueled support for Amendment Q in Indian Country. In Shannon County, home to the Oglala Sioux Tribe, results show the measure received 69 percent of the vote, far higher than the statewide margin. The picture was similar on other reservations. In nearby Todd County, home to the Rosebud Sioux Tribe, 63 percent voted for Amendment Q, according to returns. Get the Story:
