The Picayune Rancheria of the Chukchansi Indians in California has sent layoff notices to most of its casino employees.

According to news reports, some 1,100 workers of the Chukchansi Gold Resort & Casino received notices. That represents the overwhelming majority of the 1,300 employees at the facility.

The layoffs come as the casino enters another week of a shutdown. Rival factions clashed at the facility on October 9, prompting the state and the federal government to seek an emergency closure.

"Lots of people are losing jobs, they're going to lose their homes and have to move and relocate, and it's just horrible," a local told KSFN.

Two rival factions have joined forces to reopen the casino but were rejected by a federal judge. A third faction is being blamed for the dispute that led to the closure.

Some tribal members met to discuss the dispute on Saturday.
