The Seneca Nation won't be pursuing an off-reservation casino on a recently acquired parcel in New York.

The tribe bought the 32-acre parcel in Henrietta and was making plans for a gaming facility there. But due to opposition at the local level, President Barry Snyder Jr. said the project is off the table.

"We will not engage in the demanding and complex process required to get a casino approved pursuant to the laws and regulations governing Indian gaming without the support of the local community and New York State," Snyder wrote in a letter that was posted by The Rochester Democrat & Chronicle.

The tribe currently operates two off-reservation casinos on land that was acquired in fee status under the Seneca Nation Settlement Act of 1990.
