The New Mexico Senate voted 31-10 against a Class III gaming compact for the Navajo Nation.

The deal would have authorized three more Navajo Class III facilities in the next 15 years. Other tribes raised objections, citing threats to their existing casinos.

The Navajos could go back to the table and negotiate a new compact. The existing one expires in 2015.
