The Navajo Nation is insisting on five casinos in a Class III gaming compact with the state of New Mexico.

The Legislature's Committee on Compacts voted to ask the tribe to limit the number of new casinos to one. But the tribe won't budge on the issue, the lead negotiator for Gov. Susana Martinez (R) said in a letter to lawmakers, The Albuquerque Journal reported.

The tribe currently operates two Class III facilities under the existing compact, which expires in 2015. The prospect of three more Class III facilities has other tribes worried about losing customers to the Navajos.
