BIA publishes notices for recent Class III gaming compacts

The Bureau of Indian Affairs has published notices in the Federal Register of four Class III gaming compacts.

On January 17, the BIA allowed a compact for the Ramona Band of Cahuilla Indians to go into effect. The notice states that the agreement is valid only to the extent that it doesn't violate the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.

A similar situation occurred with the Fort Independence Indian Community. The BIA allowed the tribe's compact to go into effect on the same day.

In both cases, the tribes agreed to share revenues with the state. It's not immediately clear why the BIA did not outright approve or reject the compacts.

In South Dakota, the BIA published notice of an extension of a compact for the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe. There were no new terms in the agreement, which is due to expire May 30.

Similarly, the BIA published notice of an extension of a compact for the Yankton Sioux Tribe. The agreement expires April 29.
