The
Karuk Tribe and California
Gov. Jerry Brown (D) signed a Class III gaming compact on Thursday.
The compact authorizes up to 1,500 slot machines. The tribe will share 10 percent of the net win if more than 350 devices are in operation.
The tribe is planning to build a casino in two phases. The first phase calls for a 36,497 square-foot facility.
A second phase will include a hotel, according to a draft tribal environmental impact report that was released last month. Comments are being accepted until December 27.
