
North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper (D) opposes the Catawba Nation gaming project. Cooper says the casino won't stimulate the economy. "I think it's a bad idea for our state," he told The Charlotte News & Observer. The tribe wants to build a $600 million casino resort on 16 acres in Cleveland County. A land-into-trust application has been submitted to the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The tribe's primary base is in South Carolina.
