Six Michigan tribes in Class III gaming compact negotiations

Six tribes are in Class III gaming compact negotiations with the state of Michigan.

The compacts are due to expire on November 30. They were originally signed in 1993.

“Everything is on the table,” Dave Murray, a spokesman for Gov. Rick Snyder (R), told The Detroit Free Press. “We’ve worked hard to build a good working relationship with the tribes, and we’re optimistic the discussions will be productive.”

The tribes negotiating are the Bay Mills Indian Community, the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, the Hannahville Indian Community, the Lac Vieux Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians, the Saginaw Chippewa Tribe and the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians.
