City leaders divided on Tohono O'odham Nation casino plan

Leaders in the city of Glendale, Arizona, remain divided about the Tohono O'odham Nation off-reservation casino.

Officially, the city opposes the West Valley Resort and has spent $3.5 million on litigation. But three of the five council members are open to the project and have voted to start talks with the tribe.

Mayor Jerry Weiers, however, has been speaking out against the casino with the help of the Keeping the Promise group. And the Gila River Indian Community paid for a council member to fly to Washington, D.C., to meet with Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Washington), the chairwoman of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee
