Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) is expected to make a decision on the Menominee Nation off-reservation casino by the end of the week. News reports indicated that Walker was going to wait until next week but his office indicated otherwise. He will meet with Menominee Chairman Craig Corn today to discuss the $800 million casino in Kenosha. "The Menominee are confident that the benefits of a Kenosha Casino to the state are too good to turn down. The Kenosha Casino will help our tribe and its more than 8800 members realize much needed revenue to raise our standard of living," Corn said in a press release. "It will generate 5000 good paying jobs and it will be one of the biggest construction projects statewide, employing thousands of construction workers. It will not harm any other tribe in the state." The Forest County Potawatomi Tribe and the Ho-Chunk Nation remain opposed to the casino. That means Walker is likely to reject the project because he said all 11 tribes in the state must come to a "consensus." The Potawatomis operate an off-reservation casino about 40 miles from Kenosha. The Ho-Chunks say the Menominees are infringing on their aboriginal territory. Get the Story:
