Governor seeks meeting to discuss Menominee Nation casino

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) wants to meet with leaders of all 11 of the state's tribes to discuss the Menominee Nation off-reservation casino.

Walker has veto authority over the proposed $808 million casino in Kenosha under the two-part determination provisions of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. He has said all 11 tribes must come to a "consensus" on the proposal.

That's a tall order since the three most successful gaming tribes in the state already came out against the casino. The main opponent is the Forest County Potawatomi Tribe, which operates an off-reservation casino about 40 miles from Kenosha.

Walker hopes to meet sometime this week. He has given himself a deadline -- until the end of October -- to decide on the casino.
