Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe casino deal expected to win vote

The Massachusetts House is expected to vote favorably on a Class III gaming compact for the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe.

Passage clears the way for a vote in the Senate. If it's approved there, it can finally be sent to the Bureau of Indian Affairs for final review.

The BIA rejected the tribe's first compact due to concerns about revenue sharing. The new agreement appears to address the issue by lowering the rate, and even outright eliminating it, due to non-Indian competition in southeastern Massachusetts, where the tribe's casino would be located.
