The Quapaw Tribe of Oklahoma is looking to enter into a Class III gaming compact with the state of Kansas. The tribe sent a letter to Gov. Sam Brownback (R) about a possible compact. The tribe is seeking local support from communities in Cherokee County for an agreement that would include revenue sharing. "We're seeing if there's some local support to back us up for applying for a compact with the state," a spokesperson for the tribe told The Southeast Kansas Voice earlier this month. "No application has been made to the state." The tribe operates the Downstream Casino Resort in three states. The gaming portion is located on recently acquired trust land in Oklahoma while other, non-gaming portions are in Kansas and Missouri.
