Muscogee Nation alters deal to address concerns from NIGC
Monday, August 5, 2013
The Muscogee Nation of Oklahoma altered a business deal to address concerns raised by the National Indian Gaming Commission, The Tulsa World reports.
The tribe is bringing in Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville brand as part of a $250 million expansion of the River Spirit Casino. The deal was changed to ensure it was not a management contract, as that term is defined under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.
"They are very quality control-oriented people even more so because they deal with food. For some reason the NIGC thought these quality-control managers had something to do with gaming," Muscogee Nation National Council Speaker Sam Alexander told the paper.
The tribe plans to break ground on the expansion this fall.
