Jemez Pueblo in New Mexico has put its off-reservation gaming application on hold.
The tribe submitted a third application to the
Bureau of Indian Affairs last year. The first was rejected by the Bush administration without full consideration while the second was rejected by the Obama administration due to concerns about jurisdiction at the gaming site and the distance from the reservation.
The tribe is now putting a hold on the application because
Gov. Susana Martinez (R) doesn't appear to support off-reservation gaming.
She is from southern New Mexico, where the casino site is located.
The tribe wants to build a casino near Anthony, about 300 miles from the reservation.
