Saginaw Chippewa Tribe distributes $2.8M in casino funds

The Saginaw Chippewa Tribe of Michigan distributed nearly $2.8 million in gaming revenues at a press conference on Thursday.

Under its Class III gaming compact, the tribe shares 2 percent of slot machine revenues with the community. This spring, the payment for Northern Bay and Arenac counties was $639,592.27 and the payment for Isabella County was $2,119,745.13.

The money went to local schools and local governments. The tribe received over 500 requests for a share of the funds.

"The number of requests we review are indicative of our current economic reality, the need is there no matter where you live in Michigan," Chief Dennis Kequom said in a press release.
