Gov. Andrew Cuomo recently pressured the leadership of the Oneida Indian Nation and the St. Regis-Mohawk Tribe to agree to pay the state a share of their casino revenue. In exchange for millions in cash, Cuomo promised that the state wouldn't allow other casinos to be built within easy driving distance of their operations. It may seem like great news for the communities where casinos are located — Oneida County stands to collect more than $12 million a year — but other places like Cayuga County may be left out in the cold. The recent revenue-sharing agreements with the Indian nations, none of which are done deals just yet, would proceed regardless of whether or not the state moves forward with plans to establish casinos in other parts of the state.Get the Story:
