Lower Brule Sioux Tribe proceeds with off-reservation casino
Thursday, April 18, 2013
The Lower Brule Sioux Tribe of
South Dakota has submitted an off-reservation casino application to the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
The tribe wants to build a $34 million casino on a 91-acre site that was taken
into trust in 2011. The application will be processed under the two-part
determination provisions of the Indian
Gaming Regulatory Act, meaning the state governor's approval will be
required.
The tribe only plans to use 12 acres of the site for the casino.
