Seneca Nation leader not swayed by talk of non-Indian gaming

The Seneca Nation isn't threatened by talk of non-Indian gaming of New York, a tribal council leader said.

The tribe has withheld an estimated $600 million in gaming revenues from the state due to a dispute over exclusivity provisions in the Class III gaming compact. The two parties are in arbitration even as Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) proposes non-Indian casinos in the tribe's territory.

“I don’t think we’re taking it as a threat. Period," tribal council member Bryan Gonzales told The Buffalo News when asked about the proposal.

Arbitration could wrap up by the middle of the year.
