It appears there is more bipartisan support than ever, and a way around a possible governor's veto, for the reopening of old and new casinos in Texas. Finally, some optimism! Included is the Tigua Indians' Speaking Rock Casino in the Lower Valley that at one time provided 785 jobs and a payroll of $49 million. This new push for casino gambling in Texas would ultimately ask for voter approval; it would be in the form of an amendment to the Texas Constitution. And it has the backing of powerful state Sen. John Carona, R-Dallas. He said that unlike other sessions, this bill has broad support. It has always had the backing of the El Paso delegation -- each session of the Legislature since Speaking Rock was shuttered in 2002; it was deemed to be operating in violation of Texas law.Get the Story:
