First Nations in British Columbia plan to open their own casinos

Some First Nations in British Columbia are planning to open casinos on their reserves after failing to get the province to come to the table.

The British Columbia First Nations Gaming Initiative formed in 2010 to get the issue on the radar. But the province, unlike others in Canada, doesn't have a Native gaming policy.

“The province and, to some degree, the federal government just don’t seem to be interested in doing it the easy way,” Joe Hall, the chairman of the group, told The Globe and Mail.

There's only one Native casino in B.C. There are 15 Native casinos in other provinces.
