The
Wabigoon Lake First Nation of Ontario is looking to open a gaming facility.
The band has been studying the idea since the mid-2000s. Now that the
Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation is looking for casino bids, the band wants to get in on the action.
“The economy hasn't been that good within the last few years here, so I think it's very crucial that … communities … have an opportunity in building the economics around a casino,” Chief Ruben Cantin told CBC News.
Local officials, however, are reacting with caution because the area isn't considered an expansion zone for gaming.
