The mayor of Niagara Falls, New York, supports a non-Indian casino in hopes of counteracting the loss of gaming revenues from the
Seneca Nation.
The tribe operates an off-reservation casino in the city. A dispute with the state over the Class III gaming compact has cost the city some $60 million.
“We were prepared for delays or fluctuations in the amount of casino revenue,” Mayor Paul Dyster told Bloomberg Businessweek. “What we were not prepared for is what happened: a total stoppage in casino revenue for several years.”
The tribe and the state are in arbitration talks over the compact.
