More than $3.8M spent on Tohono O'odham casino lobbying
Tuesday, January 29, 2013
More than $2.6 million was spent on lobbying for and against the Tohono O'odham Nation off-reservation casino, according to The Arizona Republic.
Most of the spending was by the Gila River Indian Community. The tribe opposes the casino and spent nearly $2.6 million last year, the paper said.
The Tohono O'odham Nation spent at least $1.2 million. The Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian
Community, whose leaders oppose the casino, spent $275,000.
The tribes are in litigation over the casino. But they also dealt with a bill last year that would have blocked the casino.
