Omaha Tribe plans to spend $11M on permanent Iowa casino

The Omaha Tribe of Nebraska will spend $11 million on a permanent casino in Iowa, The Sioux City Journal reports.

The tribe is using its own funds, plus disaster funds from the Federal Emergency Management Administration, to build the new Blackbird Bend Casino. A groundbreaking is expected in March, with an opening in late 2013 or early 2014.

For now, the tribe is operating the casino out of building that was used for a restaurant. "We're glad to have gaming back on the reservation," Darwin Turner, a member of the tribe's gaming commission, told the paper.
