Yurok Tribe looking to use settlement money for casino resort

The Yurok Tribe of California could be opening up a gaming facility thanks to a $27.5 million trust fund settlement.

Tribal members will vote on a plan to set aside 37 percent of the settlement for a casino. The rest would go to a per capita payment for members.

"Hopefully we will be able to provide per capita for the people and be able to invest in the future of our tribe," Chairman Thomas O’Rourke told KIEM-TV.

The referendum is being conducted by mail.
