Oneida Nation backs group seeking local vote for new casinos
Wednesday, December 5, 2012
The Oneida Nation is backing a group called New Yorkers for Local Approval of Casinos.
Expansion of non-Indian gaming is years away, if at all, in the state.
But the group already started a campaign to ensure that local voters have the final say over casinos in their communities.
"There should be local approval layered into this," organizer Michael Tobman told The Albany Times-Union.
The Niagara County Legislature tabled a resolution to support a non-Indian casino in Niagara Falls.
The Seneca Nation operates a casino there.
