Little River Band blames governor for holding back casino plans

The Little River Band of Ottawa Indians says Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder (R) is putting jobs and economic development at risk by refusing to agree to an off-reservation casino.

The tribe wants to build a $100 million resort on 233 acres in Fruitport Township . The project requires an amendment to the existing Class III gaming compact but Snyder won't sign the deal.

“When we talk about 700 jobs, we’re serious,” Chief Larry Romanelli said at a press conference yesterday, MLive reported. “When we talk about 1,000 direct and indirect jobs, we’re serious about that, too.

Fruitport is about 80 miles from the reservation.
