Tohono O'odham Nation wins another decision in casino quest
Thursday, September 20, 2012
The
Tohono O'odham Nation
of Arizona appears to be on a winning streak as it pursues a controversial casino.
The tribe plans to open the
West Valley Resort
on 135 acres of newly acquired land. The state and federal courts have so far rejected opponents of the project.
The latest decision came from the
9th Circuit Court of Appeals
, which ruled that the
Bureau of Indian Affairs
must approve a land-into-trust application for 54 acres. The city of Glendale and the
Gila River Indian Community
are considering their options for further appeals.
