Opinion: Negotiate Class III gaming deal with Poarch Creeks

"In 2010 Florida Governor Charlie Crist signed into law a compact with the Seminole Indian Tribe which had been approved by the Florida legislature. Its terms gave the Seminole Tribe exclusive rights to table games at some of its casinos, and the right to operate slots at all of its casinos. In exchange for the promise of exclusivity, the Tribe would pay the state more than $1.2 billion in the next five years.

And Pennsylvania’s 11 casinos raked in about $233.1 million in gross slot machine revenue last month, the Associated Press reports, which was a record monthly high since the state’s first casino opened.

It boggles my mind as to why our governor…refuses to enter into negotiations for a Florida-like deal with the Poarch Creeks."
