"The National Indian Gaming Association (NIGA) hit the road in August to take our issues to the policy makers attending the Republican and Democratic Conventions. NIGA had a strong presence at both Conventions as the Chairman and Executive Director met with Tribal Leaders in Tampa and Charlotte.
Executive Director, Jason Giles (Muscogee Creek), attended the Republican Convention in Tampa, Florida. The 2012 Republican Party Platform acknowledges that the United States has not sufficiently honored its obligations to Indian tribes and Native Americans. It promises to foster tribal self-determination and economic self-sufficiency by limiting federal and state regulations. It also supports the preservation of tribal culturalresources.
“The platform language was the result of hard work by several Tribal Leaders and their representatives. Tribal Leaders were warmly welcomed and there were definitely a lot of Republican delegates who were eager to hear about the economic success stories in Indian Country.”"
