Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe yet to finish gaming land application

The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe hasn't finalized its land-into-trust application for a casino in Massachusetts, The Cape Cod Times reports.

The tribe has detailed its plans for a $500 million casino in Taunton. But key documents regarding legal issues -- such as the U.S. Supreme Court decision in Carcieri v. Salazar -- have yet to be filed with the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

"The process of completing our application for land in trust is well under way, and we expect it to be completed very shortly," Chairman Cedric Cromwell told the Times.

The state is supporting the application, which also includes a non-gaming component in Mashpee, the tribe's headquarters.
