Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe gets enough time to pursue casino

The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe will get plenty of time to pursue its casino, the Massachusetts Gaming Commission said.

The tribe filed a land-into-trust application for a casino in southeastern Massachusetts. The process could take years but the commission voted not to accept applications from other developers interested in the region.

"If the tribe is able to receive the required approvals, then it is the assumption that they will proceed with building an expanded gaming facility," a spokesperson for the commission told The Cape Cod Times.

The tribe also signed a Class III gaming compact that is being reviewed by the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
